What Makes Kỳ Co Beach Special
Kỳ Co Beach sits in a sheltered cove on the Phương Mai Peninsula south of Quy Nhơn, enclosed by rocky headlands and accessible only by boat or a clifftop trail from the fishing village of Nhơn Lý. The beach is defined by the contrast between its pale sand, turquoise shallows, and the dark volcanic rock of the surrounding cliffs - a combination that photographs extremely well and holds up in person. The water visibility in the cove is good enough for snorkeling over the rocky outcrops at the headland edges. Kỳ Co sits on a stretch of Bình Định coastline that has remained largely undeveloped compared to neighbouring provinces, and the beach retains a degree of seclusion that comparable coves further south have lost.

How to Get There
🚗 Getting There
Kỳ Co is reached from Nhơn Lý commune, approximately 20km south of Quy Nhơn city centre. By motorbike from Quy Nhơn, follow the coastal road south to Nhơn Lý fishing village - the drive takes around 30-40 minutes. From Nhơn Lý pier, regular boats run to Kỳ Co during operating hours - the crossing takes 15 minutes. Alternatively, a clifftop walking trail connects Nhơn Lý to the beach in about 45 minutes. Some visitors combine the boat one way with the trail the other. Organised boat tours from Quy Nhơn also stop at Kỳ Co as part of island-hopping day trips.
What to Expect
👀 On the Ground
The beach is a single cove roughly 400 metres wide, backed by cliffs and scrub vegetation. The sand is white and the water graduates from pale turquoise in the shallows to deeper blue further out. Rocky outcrops at both headlands offer snorkeling with moderate coral coverage and fish life. Facilities at the beach include sunbed rental, food stalls, and basic toilet facilities - enough for a comfortable half-day without being overbuilt. The beach gets busiest between 10AM and 2PM when tour boats from Quy Nhơn are present.
Travel Tips
🧳 Tips
Kỳ Co is one of those beaches where the setting does most of the work - the cliffs, the water colour, and the relative isolation combine into something genuinely beautiful without requiring much effort from the visitor. The key variable is timing: early morning arrivals get the beach at its quietest and the water at its clearest. Quy Nhơn itself is one of central Vietnam's most underrated cities - local seafood, minimal tourist infrastructure, and a relaxed pace - and Kỳ Co fits naturally into a 2-3 day stay in the area rather than requiring a dedicated trip.
