Điện Biên Province

Điện Biên is where Vietnam's modern history pivoted - the valley of Điện Biên Phủ witnessed the 1954 battle that ended French colonialism in Indochina and changed the course of the 20th century. Beyond the battlefields and war museums, this remote northwestern province is home to the T'ai, H'Mông, and over 20 other ethnic minorities living in stilthouse villages across dramatic mountain valleys. The drive in is half the experience.
