Bac Lieu Province

Bac Lieu is a sleepy coastal province in the deep south of the Mekong Delta that punches above its weight in cultural heritage. It was home to the legendary 'Bac Lieu Prince' - one of Vietnam's most flamboyant colonial-era millionaires - and is considered the birthplace of đờn ca tài tử, the traditional southern folk music now on UNESCO's intangible heritage list. For travelers, it offers bird sanctuaries, salt flats, and authentic Mekong Delta life without any tourist infrastructure.
