What Makes Cát Cò Beach Special
Cát Cò is a cluster of three small beaches on the southern headland of Cát Bà town, each set in a separate cove between limestone karst spurs that drop directly to the water. The three beaches - Cát Cò 1, Cát Cò 2, and Cát Cò 3 - are progressively less developed and more scenic from west to east, connected by a cliff path that runs above all three. Cát Cò 1, the closest to town, has resort hotels directly on the beach, sunbed rentals, and the most facilities. Cát Cò 3, the furthest, is set in the most dramatic karst cove with forested cliffs rising on three sides and the bay opening to the south - the most photogenic of the three and the least crowded. The beaches are the primary swimming destination for visitors staying in Cát Bà town and are within easy walking distance of the town centre.

How to Get There
🚗 Getting There
The Cát Cò beaches are 1–1.5km from the centre of Cát Bà town - about 10–20 minutes on foot depending on which beach. The path begins at the southern end of the main harbour road and follows the headland. All three beaches are signposted. Cát Cò 1 is closest and flattest to approach; Cát Cò 3 requires a slightly longer walk with some uphill sections on the connecting cliff path. No transport is necessary from town.
What to Expect
👀 On the Ground
Each beach is a separate cove of 100–200 metres of sand, relatively narrow, with karst cliffs forming the sides and the bay opening to the south. The water is calm in dry season - the southern orientation and the surrounding karst provide natural protection from the northeast monsoon swells that affect the island's exposed north shore. Facilities at Cát Cò 1 include resort hotels, restaurants, sunbed rental, and shower facilities. Cát Cò 2 has a small entrance fee, sunbeds, and a beach bar. Cát Cò 3 is minimally developed - a few plastic chairs and a small refreshment stand. The cliff path connecting the three gives views over all of Lan Hà Bay and the surrounding karst peaks.
Travel Tips
🧳 Tips
Cát Cò is the right beach for travellers who want a straightforward swim close to Cát Bà town - the combination of walking distance from accommodation, karst backdrop, and clean water makes it a solid half-morning or afternoon option. Cát Cò 3 specifically is worth the extra 10 minutes of walking over Cát Cò 1 - the difference in crowd level and scenery is significant. For a full beach day with more isolation, the hidden beaches inside Lan Hà Bay (accessible only by kayak) are considerably more scenic, but Cát Cò is the practical choice for a quick swim.
